For advanced Linux users the console is a much-loved tool.
The console is accessed by plugging a keyboard and monitor into the IPfire machine. Once a user logs in with a valid account like "root", commands can be run.
If a keyboard and monitor are not available, it is also possible to access a virtual console from a remotely attached machine. This is done using a Secure Shell but this requires the ssh server to be enabled. A good program for this is Putty.
